Kim Reynolds Early Life
Kimberly Reynolds was born Kimberly Kay Strawn on August 4, 1959, in Truro, Iowa but grew up in St. Charles, Iowa. She’s currently 63 years old.
Kim Reynolds Education
In 1977, she graduated from high school at the Interstate 35 Community School District.
She attended Northwest Missouri State University for one semester before moving to Southeastern Community College in the late 1980s to take classes in business, consumer sciences, and clothing sales and design. She later took accounting classes at Southwestern Community College between 1992 and 1995.
In 2012, Kimberly took classes in the bachelor of public administration program at Upper Iowa University. In 2016, she was awarded a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree by Iowa State University (she was serving as Lieutenant Governor then).
Kim Reynolds Career
Before she started her political career, Kimberly worked as a pharmacist assistant and also as a motor vehicle clerk in Clarke County. She was later elected Clarke County Treasurer in 1994 for a four-year term, the beginning of her involvement in public services. She was re-elected three times – that’s due to her impressive performance.
In 2000, she became the president of the Iowa State Treasurers Association and, in 2004, she received the Victor Martinelli “Outstanding Officer Award” from the National Association of County Collectors, Treasurers & Finance Officers.

Kimberly married her husband Kevin Reynolds in 1982 and raised three daughters – Jennifer, Nicole, and Jessica. Her three daughters are married with 11 children in all.
Kim Reynolds Political Career
Kimberly was elected to the Iowa Senate in November 2008. Two years later, she was elected as the running mate of former Governor Terry Branstad. Reynolds served two terms as the 46th lieutenant governor of Iowa from 2011 to 2017.
In 2017, she became the Governor of Iowa when Governor Terry Branstad resigned to become the US ambassador to China. In 2018, she became the full-term first female governor of Iota.
When asked to characterize her political views, Kim outlines a conservatism centered on ideas of personal accountability, individual initiative, and limited government, which she attributes to her father.
Kim is currently in the race to retain the gubernatorial seat for the second time. She has recorded so many appreciable achievements in office that can buy her the seat once more come November 8, 2022, except her opponents are stronger contenders.
